Latest Yankees Triple-A scouting reports

When told of Mitchell’s assessment, Rothschild made it sound like it’s quite unlikely the Yankees would consider slotting Sheffield into Tanaka’s spot in the rotation soon.

There are some finishing touches that need to be accomplished, otherwise it’s going to be more of a rush to try and get him here, Rothschild said.

Sheffield struck out eight over 6 1/3 innings on Friday. He gave up just one hit and two walks and didn’t allow any earned runs, though Louisville scored two.

In six starts at Triple-A, he’s 1-2 with a 2.96 ERA. He’s struck out 27 and walked 15 in 27 1/3 innings. At Double-A, he went 1-2 with a 2.25 ERA in five starts.

Boone was asked how Judge, typically so selective at the plate, can also be so aggressive at times.

Some of that is game plan, Boone said. He’ll pick his spots where he’ll go up there and look for a certain pitch sometimes.

Boone added, I think (Judge) gets in those deep counts, too, because of the way they attack him. They’re a little bit fearful of him, certainly careful with him, so they nibble a lot with him more so than most players and he has the ability to control the zone so more often than not, he’s not leaving the zone.

Chubb commanded high praise from Ware, who believes the Broncos secured an ideal complementary player to outside linebacker Von Miller.

The attributes that he really brings to the game stopping the run and being able to be that strong-side guy for Von that’s what you need, Ware said in the interview. They have that tag team again.

Having an effective one-two punch off the edges served the Broncos well during Ware’s three seasons in Denver (2014-16).

With Ware holding down the strong side and Miller the weak side, the Broncos ‘ sack totals ranked ninth in the league in 2014 (41), first in 2015 (52) and third in 2016 (42).

But after Ware’s retirement following the 2016 season, the Broncos struggled to find a player to man the strong side in 2017, dropping to 22nd in the league with 22 sacks as Shane Ray dealt with a wrist injury.

The Jets chose not to improve the position this year.

With the suspension of Mark Ingram, which includes limitations to in-season game-planning and access to training over the first month of the year, the Saints will have to make up plenty of carries, as Ingram (230 attempts) carried the ball nearly twice as much as Kamara did last year. And the Saints don’t have a proven option behind them.

For Kamara, every game in the first month of the season will have to look like his effort against Texas A&M in 2016, by far his standout game at the college level. If workload is going to be an issue for Kamara, it’s going to be apparent in Week 1.

For three years, Ereck Flowers has been a liability in pass protection for the New York Giants. If not for Ben McAdoo and Eli Manning embracing the quick passing game, Flowers would have been exposed even more.

Jenkins is going on his third year as a Jets starting pass-rusher. Frankly, that’s unacceptable. After packing picks to move up to third overall in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts, New York took itself out of the top pass-rushing market in the draft. At the same time, the Colts took two pass-rushers in the second round and added McCain in free agency.

They had options. Now their only option is Jenkins putting it on himself to record a sack more than once every 200-plus snaps.

Holder worked 2 1/3 shutout innings to run his streak of not allowing an earned run to 24 1/3 innings over 21 outings.

This was the sixth career walk-off homer and fourth walk-off homer for Stanton.

The 2010 No. 1 overall pick also helped the Devils get back into the playoffs for the first time since 2011-12. When the race got tight in the second half of the season, Hall played his best. He started the 2018 calendar year by recording a point in 26 consecutive games played a run that lasted from Jan. 2 through March 8.

It’s been more about, how can we clinch a playoff spot? How can we keep climbing up the standings and chasing teams in front of us Hall late in the season. Like I’ve said before, I’m relied upon to produce offense for our team, and that’s my role. A lot to guys have roles on this team, and I’m just trying to do my best job with mine.

He entered the season with a career high of 27 goals, and Hall managed to match that number in 2018 after scoring 12 over October, November and December.

ESPN’s Mike Golic Blasts NFL For Julian Edelman’s Four-Game Suspension

ESPN’s Mike Golic Blasts NFL For Julian Edelman’s Four-Game Suspension More Julian Edelman’s suspension isn’t sitting well with ESPN’s Mike Golic. The New England Patriots wide receiver is facing a four-game ban for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances, pending an appeal.

We knew in our heads we were right, the new governor said. And we knew in our hearts that we would win. And we did.

He also thanked both Lesniak and former Gov. Chris Christie, whose administration spearheaded the case for seven years before Murphy took over in January. Christie was invited to the ceremony but did not attend.

It’s been very competitive the whole camp, Shurmur said. There’s certain things that certainly we can’t do. We got it settled down, and in this situation where scuffles break like that, we just take them out of the practice, let them cool off. … Will Hernandez is a very competitive guy and they just kind of butted heads.

Asked about Solder getting his leg tweaked, Shurmur said he hadn’t seen the whole deal and would watch the tape later, but insisted the leg of the Giants’ free-agent prize was fine.

Baseball fans in San Francisco and outside San Francisco pretty much all agree that Lincecum was a perfect fit to be a superstar in that city. So it’s strange to think that might not have ever happened had Lincecum decided to sign a professional contract with the Cubs after they drafted him out of high school. Or even if Cleveland had been able to lure him away from the University of Washington when the Indians picked him in the 2005 draft. But Lincecum didn’t sign either time, a fact Giants fans will eternally be grateful for.

But he didn’t come close to matching that production with the Redskins last season, limited to 20 catches for 240 yards and one touchdown. Pryor tore the deltoid ligament in his right ankle Week 1 and tried to play on it before opting for surgery and going on injured reserve Nov. 21. He couldn’t practice much, and it hindered his production significantly.

I just really couldn’t focus on my game, because I was too worried about my foot, he said. It kind of took control and controlled my mind.

In an effort to ensure future health, Pryor has been talking to different veterans about how they prepare for training camp. He plans to spend money over the next month on different techniques to build up the muscles around his ankle.

John Harbaugh: Terrell Suggs is on a mission, headed for the Hall of Fame

Terrell Suggs is 35 years old and heading into his 16th season as a pass rusher for the Ravens, but he’s not slowing down.

That’s the word from Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, who said he’s been blown away by the way Suggs looks better than ever this offseason.

Greg Rinckey, an attorney specializing in military law, said it’s rare for an officer out of West Point to receive an other-than-honorable discharge. He added that it’s also possible the military academy could seek repayment of the cost of Rapone’s education because he didn’t serve the full five-year service required upon graduation.

I knew there could be repercussions, said Rapone, who is scheduled to speak at a socialism conference in Chicago next month. Of course my military career is dead in the water. On the other hand, many people reached out and showed me support. There are a lot of veterans both active duty and not that feel like I do.

Nicolas was a sixth-round pick of the Chiefs in 2016. He appeared in 11 games with Kansas City as a rookie, then missed the 2017 season with a patellar tendon injury.

Nicolas signed with Seattle last month after being released by the Chiefs.

I could’ve settled with the Cowboys for just my back wages and unpaid wages that they owed me — they offered that, she said. But I am not willing to settle . . . My goal is to help other cheerleaders, and women as a whole.

The daughter of an electrical-engineer father and a dance-instructor mother, Wilkins wanted to be a DCC since seventh or eighth grade. My mom ran a dance studio, and she had a couple of students that went on to become Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

At a dance competition when she was 16, Wilkins was approached by a DCC scout.

Giants coach Pat Shurmur said he remains in daily communication with Gettleman as his boss undergoes cancer treatment.

Senior vice president of player personnel Chris Mara — brother of co-owner John Mara — told Mad Dog Sports Radio that  Gettleman’s voice will be heard loud and clear on major issues, such as Odell Beckham’s contract negotiations.

Beckham plans to attend Giants training camp as of now. But if the Giants do not scrap the one-year, $8.45 million deal for Beckham and replace it with a long-term extension as the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL by the start of training camp, there is a possibility of a holdout.

Stewart is a 10-year veteran and Pro Bowler who has seen up-close all of the league’s top players in that era. He was teammates with Smith, who ranks No. 12 in NFL history in receptions, for six seasons.

So how does Beckham compare?

Obviously one of the most freakishly talented athletic people I’ve ever seen touch a football. The routes he is running are very amazing, Stewart said. Steve Smith is one of those guys that come to mind as far as a guy who is a savage on the field. Odell definitely has that.

For years Luck has been a salmon swimming upstream in the Colts’ building, playing for a head coach who constantly referred to him as the quarterback – it always jarred me that in Pagano’s mind, Adam Vinatieri was Vinny, Darius Butler was D-Buts, and Andrew Luck was the quarterback – and playing for offensive coordinators and QB coaches who were hired because they were someone’s buddy (Pep Hamilton and Rob Chudzinski), or someone’s son (Brian Schottenheimer). Meatheads, all of them.

Now Luck is playing for a cutting-edge offensive coach, Reich, who last worked for Super Bowl-winning Doug Pederson of the Philadelphia Eagles, and with an even more innovative offensive coordinator in 36-year-old Nick Sirianni, who’s just out there as far as the way he sees and talks the game. And out there is right where the Colts need to be, to get the most out of a quarterback whose talent is superior but whose game was stagnating even before all those meatheads put him through a grinder that ultimately cost Luck the 2017 season.

Gettleman’s prognosis is positive, according to the team.

The 67-year-old longtime Giants executive was in the thoughts of several players who spoke Wednesday night at the David Tyree Charity Bowl to benefit Children of the City, a Brooklyn-based organization dedicated to bettering the lives of impoverished children.

Our thoughts and prayers are with him, quarterback Davis Webb said. He is one of the leaders of our organization. A lot of us wouldn’t be here without him. We’re wishing him a speedy recovery. I know he’s going to beat it and can’t wait to get him back in the facility.

He is part of the reason why I’m here, why I got drafted to the New York Giants, Barkley said. It sucks to hear that for someone you care about, but at the same time you know the type of person he is and it sounds like he is in very high spirits. He knows for sure that everyone on the team has his back. We’re there for him. We’re going to continue to love him and pray for him.

Kevin Abrams, who has been a Giants’ assistant general manager for 16 years, could take on more in Gettleman’s absence. Gettleman’s right-hand man during his stint as general manager of the Panthers, Bills general manager Brandon Beane, issued his own statement of support for Gettleman.

I want to take this opportunity to explain why young Americans stand for the national anthem, Trump said. Maybe it’s about time that we understood. We stand to honor our military and to honor our country and to remember the fallen heroes who never made it back home. We stand to show our love to show our love to our fellow citizens and our magnificent constitution. Despite Trump’s insistence that everyone should stand for the national anthem at all times, there was at least one person at the White House on Tuesday who decided to kneel, as captured by a correspondent for Sweden’s SVT:

Apparently, the relationship between the Eagles and the White House started going south on Friday when the two sides began finalizing the details for Tuesday’s trip. According to multiple reports, the Eagles were planning to send fewer than 15 players to the event, which didn’t sit well with the White House.

FOX News apologizes for misleading report about Eagles

jets_055FOX News responded to President Trump’s decision to cancel the Eagles’ White House visit scheduled for Tuesday by running clips of Eagles players kneeling in prayer while a newscaster discussed the President’s aversion to players kneeling during the playing of the national anthem.

No Eagles players knelt during the playing of the anthem during the 2017 regular season or postseason, however, and that led to angry reactions from Chris Long and Zach Ertz about the network’s apparent attempt to suggest otherwise during their report.

During our report about President Trump canceling the Philadelphia Eagles trip to the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl win, we showed unrelated footage of players kneeling in prayer. To clarify, no members of the team knelt in protest during the national anthem throughout regular or postseason last year. We apologize for the error.

The Steelers are transitioning with a new offensive coordinator, as Randy Fichtner was promoted from quarterbacks coach to replace Todd Haley, whose contract wasn’t renewed after the 2017 season.

While extra time in the offensive scheme might prove beneficial for Jones, Dobbs and Rudolph, the team’s established starter doesn’t believe he’ll require too much adjusting when considering Fichtner’s previous post.

If Coach asked me to be here every day, I would be here every day, but they haven’t asked me to do that, Roethlisberger said. I’ve worked with Randy for eight years now, so it’s not like he’s a new guy just coming in that work is necessary. So, we’ve got a lot of same guys back on offense and a lot of the stuff is plays that we’ve been doing before a lot of guys got here, that I’ve been doing a long time.

Outside of the voluntary nature of OTAs, the Steelers starting quarterback raised another valid point on the offseason workout program, where players are practicing without pads and in no-contact situations.

NFL teams typically utilize OTAs to get players back on the field for conditioning, familiarization and installation periods, among other areas. And Roethlisberger points out the true evaluations don’t begin until training camp.

Keith Law’s draft recap: AL team-by-team breakdown

jets_057The chart below breaks down all 30 major-league teams’ bullpens in terms of relievers’ proximity to the closer role, not their overall fantasy value. Teams are broken down by division.

CLOSER is either that team’s officially designated closer, or the pitcher most likely to get the team’s next save chance. NEXT IN LINE is the pitcher next-most likely to take over if something happens to the closer, or the one who might get any save chances on the closer’s nights off. NOTES beneath each division’s chart provide detail on teams’ closer situations that might have an unusual wrinkle, like an injury to the typical closer requiring a short term fill-in, or a committee situation.

NBC10 Philadelphia reporter Tim Furlong, who covered the event, said he couldn’t find one person that could even name the team’s starting quarterback.

He also reported that he found only one person at the event wearing Eagles gear.

Springer’s go-ahead single landed just in front of a sprinting Joey Gallo in left field against Jose Leclerc (1-2) after Guzman’s RBI single had pulled Texas even in the fifth.

According to research from the Rangers, only two other pitching staffs have combined to hit five batters in a game since 2002. Both were in 2017: San Diego against St. Louis and Toronto against Atlanta. In archives dating to 1908, the 2001 Angels were the only other team to win a game after hitting at least five batters.

The last AL pitcher to hit four batters in a game was Orlando Hernandez with the Chicago White Sox in 2005. Morton now shares the franchise record with the late Darryl Kile, who hit four against St. Louis in 1996. … Texas’ Jurickson Profar was hit twice in a game for the first time in his career. … Three of Houston’s walks went to Choo, who reached base in his 25th straight game to extend his majors-leading streak. … The Rangers have twice stranded 17 runners in a nine-inning game, most recently in 2007.

Astros: SS Carlos Correa missed a third straight game with soreness on his right side. Manager A.J. Hinch said Correa could be available Sunday if he doesn’t start, and the club is optimistic he will be ready after an off day Monday.

Jay Gruden calls Trey Quinn a quiet assassin

jets_058Wide receiver Trey Quinn became the latest player to get the Mr. Irrelevant label when he became the final pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, which lead him to say that he plans to be the most relevant player ever with that tag.

Hopefully, he doesn’t put too much pressure on himself. If he doesn’t, I think we’ll have a great Zeke.

While the Cowboys refer to their offense as Dak friendly, Elliott is a quarterback’s best friend. Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said Elliott is going to touch the ball a lot this season.

Can Manziel be that player? Jones thinks so. And you might be surprised to know that in his final college season, Manziel led all qualified players in completion percentage on throws from the pocket (73.5). But first, Manziel will have to master a set of rules and alternate structures that have tripped up many American quarterbacks north of the border.

During a phone conversation last week, Reilly detailed five differences quarterbacks have to adjust to while transitioning to the CFL. Here are those five differences in his words:

Reilly’s breakdown: Having 12 guys on offense, that sounds great. OK, I get an extra receiver. But the additional guy defensively allows defensive coordinators to draw up so many different coverages that you don’t even see in the States. There are essentially three safeties. When you get an extra guy out there, they can bring pressures that they can’t bring in the States. They can drop into certain zone coverages and things like that.

I want to have certainty in regards to the upcoming years of my career. I’m going to continue to work my craft and put in work so that I can add to the team and give us the best chance to win. I hope my teammates understand where I’m coming from I believe this is the right thing to do.

Rutgers football begins summer conditioning program | How much can players work with the coaches?

jets_059Rutgers coach Chris Ash has often said the three-month period between spring camp and training camp is a key part to the development of his team, a time when his players digest the playbook, develop their bodies and build a chemistry that lasts through the season.

For the Scarlet Knights, a pivotal eight-week period starts Tuesday.

The remainder of the workouts will be organized by team leaders, with players getting together on their own for positional drills and 7-on-7 competitions throughout the summer.

It all leads to the season opener at home against Texas State on Sept. 1.

We made a lot of progress in the spring — still got a long way to go — but I like the way this team has come together,Ash said at the conclusion of spring camp in mid-April. We’ll move forward and continue to work in the summer leading into training camp.

Kirkpatrick was actually in Atlanta yesterday, according to his Instagram, which had a picture of him outside of the InterContinental Buckhead hotel in Atlanta.

We’ll keep you posted as more Bengals OTA news develops.

What’s in those darkest corners of his mind today? Lewis stays vague.

You start thinking, Lewis says, of other stuff.

A warning pops up on Lewis’ iPad screen. His battery has drained to 10 percent, but he doesn’t see it. Instead he’s now explaining how going to jail for a crime he didn’t commit prepared him. How football prepared him. How everything equipped him to prepare for anything and expect everything.A few moments later, I tell Lewis that his battery is about to die, and he checks for himself. You’re right!he blurts, frantically typing away with beads of sweat dripping down his temple.

The screen goes black, and Lewis pops up to his feet.

Hold on, he says. I’m going to get my charger because I’m not going anywhere.
